Set Up Age Verification

Age verification is easy with Exatouch. By default, the Legal Age definitions are set at 18 and 21, covering the purchase age of a large number of restricted sales items, such as dry ice and lotto tickets, or alcohol and tobacco products.

An Override button is enabled by default, but may require entry of the PIN of a Power or Admin user to complete the sale with an override of the age check.

Using the default or custom Legal Ages defined for your organization, enable age check for one or more items in inventory or on your menu.

Enable Age Check for an Item

  1. From Home, navigate to Items > Item List, find an item to update, and open the Item Details work area for that item.
  2. Select an age from the Age Check options.
  3. Tap Save to save your changes.
  4. Exatouch prompts for age verification when you ring up this item.

Enable Age Check for Multiple Items

  1. Find and create a temporary list of items and use the Modify All List Items work area to enable Age Check for multiple items.
    • Example: In this example, all items in the category Tobacco require an age check to verify purchasers are over the age of 21.

  2. Tap Modify All List Items to open the Details work area for all items you’ve selected in the Tobacco category. Select the appropriate Check Age option, then tap OK to save your changes.
  3. Confirm and reconfirm your changes.
  4. Exatouch prompts for age verification when you ring up these items.

Legal Age Definitions and Overrides

Legal Age settings for age verification are set at a default of 18 and 21. These settings are in the Fraud Control work area (Account > Settings > Fraud Control). Accessible only by Support, work with the Support team to adjust the two age levels if needed, and to allow or deny manual override of age requirements.

By default, the Override button is enabled and available to users with access to the feature. If disabled in Fraud Control, no users can manually override age verification.

  • Note: Only the Account Owner can work with Support to make changes to Age Verification and Override settings in Fraud Control.
