In Exatouch, the Instruction, Special Instruction, and Add Note features are used with MODs. However, they serve different purposes.
Modifier Instructions provide additional detail on applying MODS to an order. This is especially helpful to restaurants that communicate specific instructions to kitchen staff before an order is prepared. Instructions display as green buttons.
Example: A customer orders a Cheese Pizza with extra mushrooms. Exatouch users can tap the Extra and Mushroom buttons to provide kitchen staff with instructions about the order. In this case, the Extra button is associated with an additional price.
Users can create Instructions under the Custom Vars tab. Up to 9 Instructions can be created.
- From Home, navigate to Settings > Preferences.
- Tap the Custom Vars tab.
- Select Instructions from the Type list.
- In the Description section, select an instruction label and enter a name. For example, tap Instruction 9 and enter Triple into the field.
- Optional: Add a Price.
- Note: Modifier charges do not apply to the Hold modifier instruction.
- Enable the desired slider(s) in the Active column to activate the Instruction(s). Disable to deactivate.
- Tap Save.
- Tip! Check your work! Enter an order associated with MODS in the Register app and confirm that modifier instructions are intact. MODS will only display when there are existing MODS for the root item.
Special Instructions are bundled with MODS to provide additional information for kitchen staff. This additional information is merely instructional and does not change the application or pricing of MODS at the Register.
Example: Restaurants pass along special instructions to staff regarding common allergies or other food preferences. Special Instruction examples include Gluten Allergy, Peanut Allergy, Vegan, etc. In the following order, a customer requests their pizza to be prepared Extra Crispy.
Users can create dozens of Special Instructions by accessing settings found under the Custom Vars tab.
- On the Custom Vars tab, select Special Instructions.
- Tap Add Line to create a new Special Instruction or to modify an existing instruction in the Description section.
- Tap Save.
- Tip! Check your work! Enter an order associated with MODS in the Register app and confirm that modifier special instructions are intact. MODS will only display when there are existing MODS for the root item.
For more complex modifier combinations, merchants can also enter special instructions by tapping the Add Note button on the Optional Modifiers screen. For the order below, a customer requests to have 1/4 Topping of Bacon placed on top of a 1st Half Topping of Sausage.
- After entering the order and required modifiers, tap the MODS button.
- Select the desired optional modifiers, then tap Add Note.
- Enter special instructions in the pop-up screen, then tap OK.
- Special instructions display in the Register app and also the kitchen ticket when the order is complete.
