Inventory Matrix

  • Last Updated: February 7, 2025

The Inventory Matrix feature allows merchants to assign a single SKU number with multiple prices for bundled items, such as soda, sports drinks, or t-shirts. Using Exatouch, merchants can set prices for individual items as well as various bundle sizes.

An Inventory Matrix is broken down into Groups and Members. A Group refers to the root item being sold, such as Coca-Cola or Powerade while Members refer to items bundled by Size, Style, and Color (e.g., a 6- and 12-packs of soda or Large and Extra Large t-shirts).Item Details screen with Inventory Matrix tab highlighted and different sizes and prices of Gatorade listed

    • Note: The item being added to the Inventory Matrix Group should be set to Non-Inventory (in the New Item screen). If the item is set as Inventory, the Qty should be set to 0 (zero). A negative or positive quantity for an Inventory item will result in it not being available to add to a Matrix Group (and the Group button will be grayed out).

Add a Member to a Group

After creating the Group, merchants can add Members to the Group. Members are items grouped under a common root item (e.g. Gatorade), but with varying attributes, such as Size, Color, or Style (e.g. Gatorade 6-pack, Gatorade 12-pack, etc.). Some attributes, such as Size, must be created under the Custom Vars tab.

  • See: Define Custom Variables for more on the Custom Vars tab.
  1. Define different Inventory Matrix item sizes (e.g., 6-pack, 12-pack, etc.) under the Custom Vars tab.
  2. Navigate to Items > Item Details, then tap the Inventory Matrix tab to return to the Group.Inventory matrix tab highlighted on item details screen
    • Tip! If you cannot locate a specific Group, you can find it under the Matrix submodule. From Home, navigate to Items > Matrix and select the desired Group from the Matrix List screen.
  3. Tap New Member.New member button highlighted on inventory matrix screen
    • Note: Best practice when adding new and additional Members is to tap the New Member button (not the Add Member button). Using the New Member button ensures uniformity among menu items and is the simpler method of creating an Inventory Matrix. Tapping Add Member converts existing items into a matrix member.
  4. In the Inventory Matrix work area, enter the following:
    1. Price: The desired price.
    2. Pack Size: The pack size (e.g., 1).
    3. Pack Unit: The unit size (e.g., 1.00).Inventory matrix screen with arrows pointing to price, pack size, and pack unit fields
