Understanding Custom Buttons for Retailers

Merchants will love a quicker checkout when they customize their register with custom buttons! Custom buttons can be configured to execute function, quickly add items or services to an order, and apply discounts. This topic shows you a map of 5 locations at the Register where you can add/remove custom buttons. After reviewing button locations, learn what you can program custom buttons to do: Functions, Items, Services, and Discounts/Other.

Accessing Custom Button Settings

To access custom button settings, navigate to Settings > Preferences and tap the Custom Buttons tab.

This is what custom button settings look like:

Custom Buttons can be added to five (5) areas of the register. Each register area corresponds to a tab within custom buttons settings:

  • Top Buttons
  • Buttons
  • Details
  • Controls
  • Sub Menu

Top Buttons Correspond to Register Tab

Top Buttons are used by restaurants to display order type and are often left blank by retailers.
Buttons found on the Top Buttons tab include the following:

  • If these buttons are not blank, retailers can choose to remove/clear these buttons. See: Custom Buttons: Remove a Function
  • Order types such as Dine In, Take Out, Pick Up, and Delivery are generally displayed by restaurants, pizzerias, and quick service restaurants.

Buttons Correspond to Register Tab

Buttons found on the Buttons tab…

…correspond to the red and grey default buttons found on the Register tab.

  • Default functions on the red and grey rows vary by business type.
  • Any function on these buttons can be moved to a different tab or removed.
  • Up to three lines can be displayed.
  • For faster processing, retailers may choose to add a “Customer payout” button, or Quick Pay buttons such as Lotto, Scratch-Off or Money Order. See:  Set Up Quick Payouts

Details Correspond to Details Tab/Default Functions

Buttons found on the Details tab…

…correspond to the default functions found on the register’s Order Details tab.

  • Any of these functions can be moved to a different tab or removed.

Controls Correspond to Register Default Control Functions

Buttons found on the Controls tab…

…correspond to the default control functions found at the register.

  • Control functions appear at the register regardless of the tab selected.
  • Any of these functions can be moved to a different tab or removed.

Sub Menu Corresponds to Register Sub Menu

  • These functions display at the register by tap the Sub Menu icon in the lower right-hand corner.
  • Any of these functions can be moved to a different tab or removed.

Custom Buttons can be configured to do the following:

Functions

All functions that can be moved, added or removed from the register are found on the Functions list. Functions may vary by business type.

  • Note: Special Functions which are not available at the Register by default can be added via custom buttons. Items

An item can be added to the register for quick access. All items that are active in the merchant’s inventory can be found on the Items list. Items available on this list are unique to this retailer:

Services

A service can be added to the register for quick access. All services that are active in the merchant’s inventory can be found on the Services list. Services will vary by merchant; there are no active services available on this retailer’s list:

Discounts/Other

All whole order discounts, promos, service charges, and single line discounts are available on the Discounts/Other list. This is a sample discount/promo list:

  • Only active discounts/promos/service charges display on the list.
  • Listings vary based on the merchant.
  • Enable the Single Item/Service and Entire Order sliders, as desired.
