Understanding Custom Buttons for Restaurants

  • Last Updated: March 10, 2021

Merchants will love a quicker check-out when they customize their register with custom buttons!  Custom buttons can be set-up to execute function, quickly add items or services to an order, and apply discounts. This topic shows you a map of 5 locations at the Register where you can add/remove custom buttons.  After reviewing button locations, learn what you can program custom buttons to do:  Functions, Items, Services, and Discounts/Other.

Custom button settings are accessed through Register Preferences.

This is what custom button settings look like:

There are 5 areas of the register to which custom buttons can be added. Each register area corresponds to a tab within custom buttons settings:
“Top Buttons”,  “Buttons”, “Details”, “Controls”, and “Sub Menu”

Top Buttons correspond to Register Tab/Order Types

Buttons found on the “Top Buttons” tab…

…correspond to default order types found on the Register tab.

  • Order types such as “Dine In”, “Take out”, “Pickup” and “Delivery” are generally displayed by restaurants, pizzerias, and quick service restaurants.
  • Order types displayed can be customized through the use of custom buttons.  For example, a quick service restaurant can apply these custom order types:  Window 1, Window 2, Dine In, Delivery
  • Retailers can choose to remove/clear these buttons through the use of custom buttons.

Buttons correspond to Register Tab

Buttons found on the “Buttons” tab…

…correspond to the red and grey default buttons found on the Register Tab.

  • Default functions on the red and grey rows vary by business type. For example, restaurants display a “Tab Auth” button by default.
  • Any functions on these buttons can be moved to a different tab or removed.
  • Restaurants, pizzerias, and quick-service restaurants have two lines enabled by default. A third line can be enabled.

Details correspond to Details Tab/Default Functions

Buttons found on the “Details” tab…

…correspond to the default functions found on the Register’s Details tab.

  • Any of these functions can be moved to a different tab or removed.

Controls correspond to Register Default Control Functions

Buttons found on the “Controls” tab…

…correspond to the default control functions found at the register.

  • Control functions appear at the register regardless of the tab selected.
  • Any of these functions can be moved to a different tab or removed.

Sub Menu corresponds to Register Sub Menu

Custom buttons “Sub Menu” tab and the functions within…

…correspond to the default functions found within the register’s sub menu

  • These functions can be seen at the register by selecting the sub-menuon the lower right-hand corner.
  • Any of these functions can be moved to a different tab or removed.
