Enable Checkout Fee (Customer Service Fee) – Prior Releases

Retailers, restaurants and other businesses can implement a customer service fee to help with business expenditures and maintain exceptional service and competitive prices. With Exatouch Point of Sale, a customer service fee can be applied automatically as a set dollar amount or percent on a customer’s total purchase.

  • Update: Customer Service Fee is now Checkout Fee. This change complies with major card brand requirements.

Enable customer service fees in Settings. Then, activate customer service fees for categories & subcategories, groups of items, and/or individual items.

Customer service fees can be applied with or without a cash discount.

Enable Customer Service Fees

Customer service fees are enabled by Admin Users.

  1. From Home, tap Settings.
  2. Choose Account.
  3. If not already selected, click on the Cash Discount tab.
  4. Select the Customer service fee checkbox. 
  5. Choose one or both options: Charge on credit and/or Charge on cash; Charge on credit and Charge on cash can be selected simultaneously. 
  6. Type a value in the Amount field, and choose whether it will be a Percent or Dollar value.
  7. Customer service fee receipt message is optional. To include a message, enable “Customer service fee receipt message” and type a message into the text field.
    • Tip! Use variables in receipt messages to customize receipts. The variable {%disc} in a receipt message will display the percentage applied. For example, for a 10% discount, the message: “A {%disc} service fee has been applied” will appear as “A 10% service fee has been applied”. “A {$disc} service fee has been applied” displays “A $10 service fee has been applied”.  Similarly, the {dollar} variable will display the dollar amount applied.
  8. Press Save.
  • Note: Customer service fees are enabled by Admin Users.


Activate Customer Service Fee for Categories and Subcategories

Customer service fee is activated for entire categories and subcategories in the Items section.

Activate Customer Service Fee for a Category:

  1. From Home, tap Items.
  2. Select Categories.
  3. Choose a category. Use the green arrows to scroll through a long list of categories.
  4. Select Allow cash discount.  When enabled, cash discounts and/or customer service fees apply.
  5. Press Save.

Activate Customer Service Fees for a Subcategory:

  1. From Home, tap Items.
  2. Select Categories.
  3. Choose a category. Use the green arrows to scroll through a long list of categories.
  4. Choose a subcategory.
  5. Select Allow cash discount. When enabled, cash discounts and/or customer service fees apply.
  6. Press Save.


Activate Customer Service Fees for Groups of Items

Use Advanced Item Search to pull together a specific group of items. Then activate customer service fees for that specific group of items.

  1. From Home, tap Items
  2. Choose Items List.
  3. Within Items List, use search items to pull together a group of items.
    • Search for specific terms by clicking on a column heading, such as Item.  Then type into the Start typing search string field. For example, to find all instances of ’30’ within an Item description, click on the Item column heading, then type “30” into the Start typing search string field.
    • For a robust search of the entire Items List, click on Advanced Item Search.
  4. View search results to confirm that intended items display.
  5. Click Modify All List Items.
    • Note: Select Modify All List Items to modify all items displayed on the Items List screen. Before you modify a list of items, confirm that the items listed in the window are intended.
  6. Double-click to enable Cash discount. When enabled, cash discounts and/or customer service fees apply.
  7. Press OK.
  8. Tap Yes to confirm your selections.

  • Tip! Check your work!  Review each item record to confirm that Allow cash discount is enabled.  Simply choose an item, review their record, then click Next rec repeatedly to scroll through a list of records.


Activate Cash Discounts for Individual Items

Cash Discounts are activated for individual items within Item Details.

  1. From Home, tap Items.
  2. Choose Items Details.
  3. If the item’s record is not already appearing, click List to pull up a list of items.
  4. Select an item. Scroll or use search options to find an item.
  5. Confirm that the correct record is displayed.
  6. Select Allow cash discount.  When enabled, cash discounts and/or customer service fees apply.
  7. Press Save.
